Q: Is there an Expo?

Q: Is the Charlottesville course USATF certified and can it be used as a Boston Marathon qualifier?
A: YES, Here is the USATF course Certification Number: VA10001TR.
Q: Does the Charlottesville Marathon, Half Marathon & 8K Road Championship use Chip Timing?
A: YES, We will be using MyLaps Bib Tag system.
Q: What is the start time of the Charlottesville Marathon and Half Marathon?
A: The Marathon and Half Marathon both START at 6:30 a.m, 8K STARTS AT 7:00 a.m., the Kids Marathon starts at 9 a.m.
Q. Is this race for Walkers?
A. No. The city and county have given us strict guidelines that will not allow participants to walk the course.
Q: How do I register?
A: You can register online. There will be NO entry fee refunds or transfers. There is NO Race Day entry.
Q: Are there Portajohns at the race start and on the race course?
A:Yes, see course information tab on the main menu for details
Q: Is there a time limit on the course?
A: Yes. Runners must finish the Marathon in 6 Hours and Half Marathon in 3 Hours. Sorry no Walkers.
Q: Is the course open to vehicular traffic?
A: Yes. at the beginning of the race (within the city) the side streets will be closed, once runners enter the county (at the 5K point) the course will be open to vehicles for the remainder of the race. However, traffic will be controlled by Police and volunteers. Runners must always run on the left side of the roadway unless instructed otherwise by Police or volunteers.
Q: What is the course like?
A: The course will traverse some of the most scenic and historic areas on the East Coast. Proceeding out of Charlottesville, you will run past many historic sites including Thomas Jefferson's Rotunda, located at the University of Virginia. You will run through beautiful Albemarle Wine and Horse country, then back through some of Charlottesville's most historic downtown neighborhoods including 2 miles of FLAT running along the Riverview Park paved footpath. Truly one of the most scenic course you will ever run.
Q: What is the age requirement for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K and Kids Marathon?
A: The age requirement for the Marathon is 12 years old. The age requirement for the Half Marathon is 10 years old. The age requirement for the 8K is 8 years old. The Kids Marathon has no age requirement, and parents are welcome to run with their children.
Q: What is the distance for the Kids Marathon?
A: The Kids Marathon runs an out and back on the Historic Downtown Mall. The distance is 1.2K or 0.75 miles.
Q: What is the temperature in Charlottesville this time of year?
A: The average temperature is 66 degrees, but can vary.
Q: Will there be a "sag" vehicle?
A: Yes. The vehicles will follow the last runners in each race.
Q: Is there anything for families to do during the race?
A: Yes. There will be a post race Expo beginning at 7:30 a.m. with fun activities for the whole family, including food and face painting. In addition, the historic Downtown Mall has a wide variety of Restaurants and Shopping along with the Charlottesville Children's Discovery Museum.
Q: How many runners will be in the race?
A: LIMITED ENTRY: 3,500 Combined for both events.
Q: Do participants receive a Finishers medallion?
A: Yes, each finisher of the Marathon and Half Marathon receive a very beautiful medallion.
Q: How do I receive my Race Packet?
A: Please refer to the Packet Pickup link from the main page.
WHEN: Friday from 12 noon until 8 p.m. on , and Saturday (race day), from 5:15 until 6:15 for the Marathon/Half Marathon (Marathon/Half Marathon start at 6:30) and until 6:45 for the 8K (8K starts at 7:00am)
WHERE: the Main Street Arena (former ice park).
Q: Can runners use headphones during the race?
A: No; for safety reasons headphones and other devices that impair runners from hearing cars and other obstacles are not allowed.
