Running Tip of the Month!

Beat the heat!

Allow about two weeks to acclimate to the heat.  Once acclimated, make sure to take fluids along with you on any run over 90 minutes.  Make sure you take in enough sodium along the way.

Favorite Race: 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR

Secondary Job:  Director of Marketing-Charlottesville Running Company, Real Estate Agent-Keller Williams Realty

Upcoming race plans: I hope to choose some local races to do in 2009.

Best race in 2008: Mt. Sac, California -  3k Steeplechase. I pulled a muscle in my calf 200 meters in to the race. I was about to pull out of the race because I was limping and was in so much pain.  Something told me to stick it out though and I did. I couldn't even walk off of the track when I crossed the finish line but I ran my fastest time of the season under "not so ideal" circumstances. Even if I ran my worst time of the season I would consider this my best race because I didn't give up. I did the best I could with what I had at the time.

Advice to first timers:  ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! If you work hard and committ fully to a goal you undoubtly will be successful in some way. It may not be in the way you had intended or set forth but there will always be something positive to come from the effort you put forward.
