Q: Is there an Expo?

A: YES, see the home page for information.

 

Q: What is the race time limit?

A: 6 hours for the Marathon, 3.5 hours for the Half Marathon. Walkers only in the 8k

 

Q: When does registration close?

A: Online registration closes the Thursday before the event. On-site registration is available at the Expo.

 

Q: Is the Charlottesville course USATF certified and can it be used as a Boston Marathon qualifier?

A: YES, the USATF Course Certification numbers are VA14005TR for the Marathon and VA14006TR for the Half Marathon.

 

Q: Does the Charlottesville Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon and 8K use Chip Timing?

A: YES, the MyLaps Bib Tag system.  This is the same system used at some of the largest running events in World, including the Boston, Chicago and New York Marathon.

 

Q: What are the start times?

A:  The Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, and 8K START at 7:00a.m. The Kids K starts at 8:00 a.m

 

Q: What are the start and finish locations?

A:  All races START and FINISH at the intersection of E. Jefferson St and 5th St at Court Square in Downtown Charlottesville.

 

Q.  Is this race for Walkers?

A.  Only the 8K, but NOT the Half Marathon and Marathon.  The City and County police have given us strict guidelines.

 

Q: How do I register?

A: You can register online HERE. There will be NO entry fee refunds or transfers.

 

Q: Are there port-a-johns at the race start and on the race course?

A: Yes, see the course map for information on port-a-potties locations

 

Q: Is the course open to vehicular traffic?

A: Yes. However, traffic will be controlled by Police and volunteers.  Runners must always run on the left side of the roadway unless instructed otherwise by Police or volunteers.

 

Q: What is the course like?

A: The course will traverse some of the most scenic and historic areas on the East Coast, including the University of Virginia Corner and Rotunda, an Unesco World Heritage site. The start/finish, or Court Square, is the site of the oldest serving Court in the USA. You will run in the heart of Charlottesville past many historic sites.  The course also runs through some of Charlottesville's most historic downtown neighborhoods including the Rivanna River. Truly one of the most scenic course you will ever run.

 

Q: What is the official nutrition of the Charlottesville Marathon?

A: There will be Gatorade and gels provided throughout the course of the Charlottesville Marathon. Please refer to the PDF course map for locations.

 

Q: What is the age requirement for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 8K and Kids Marathon?

A: The age requirement for the Marathon is 12 years old. The age requirement for the Half Marathon is 10 years old. The age requirement for the 8K is 8 years old. The Kids K has no age requirement, and parents are welcome to run with their children.

 

Q: What is the distance for the Kids K?

A: The Kids K runs an out and back on E. Jefferson St. The distance is 1K or 0.6 miles.

 

Q: What is the temperature in Charlottesville this time of year?

A: The average temperature is 66 degrees, but can vary.

 

Q: Will there be a "sag" vehicle?

A: Yes. We will have bikes following the last runners and sag vehicles located at several locations on the course.

 

Q: Is there anything for families to do during the race?

A: Yes. The Expo will have fun activities for the whole family.  In addition, the historic Downtown Mall has a wide variety of Restaurants and Shopping.

 

Q: How many runners will be in the race?

A: LIMITED ENTRY: 2,500 Combined for both events.

 

Q: Do participants receive a Finishers medallion?

A: Yes, each finisher of the Marathon and Half Marathon receive a very beautiful medallion.

 

Q: How do I receive my Race Packet?

A: Please refer to the Packet Pickup link from the main page.

Q: Can runners use headphones during the race?

A: No; for safety reasons headphones and other devices that impair runners from hearing cars and other obstacles are not allowed.
